Looking through some old Premier drum catalogues the other day, I came across an article about Phil Barlow. Phil drummed for 5PP back in their heyday but I can't find anything about what he might be doing now or even if he his still around. Does anyone know? On another topic... I am a member of the Syd Lawrence Orchestra Society and attend our local monthly meetings in Coventry. Each month two members present a program of jazz and big band music and when it's my turn, I like to throw in a novelty number or at least a track that isn't directly jazz or swing orientated. It was with this in mind I recently included a track by 5PP - 'Saturday Cowboys'. This wonderfully crafted swinging little number speaks of the days of Saturday morning cinema, excited kids clutching their sixpences and the innocence of a time pre-video, computers, DVD's etc. The age of our members being what it is (mostly 60-80 years - I am the youngest at 51!) they were quite moved by the words and the nostalgic feelings this song evoked. In fact,if you listen to this track carefully, it is a very clever arrangement and the subtle sound of the mighty Wurlitzer at one particular point just adds to the atmosphere and nostalgia of the song. Next time I might include another 5PP track. Heck, maybe we can fix up a gig in Coventry!

My son has just showed me this video of the 5PP and this article. I am definitely alive and living on the outskirts of blackpool. With ref to the 5PP George and eddie have passed away. I don't play anymore but I do keep in touch with a few guys who I have worked with over the years.
