The Fivepenny Piece have retired. In saying that, there are far too many new releases coming out for a band who have retired!!! As for gigs, the official line is the same - The Fivepenny Piece have retired. However, they have been known to sneak out on very rare occasions for a bit of a live reunion. The last such event was John and Lynda's 'A Night Of Nostalgia' at the Broadoak Hotel in Ashton-under-Lyne in September 2008. Previous shows have also included John's grandson Matthew, and gave rise to the 2007 'Where It All Began' album. So don't expect any major tours; that won't happen. But keep half an eye on the website and maybe - if you're lucky - we might get another show or two before they really retire! Personally I'm waiting for some bright spark to come up with a The Fivepenny Piece tribute band. Daft idea, I know. It'd never work! (That's what they said about my Wurzels tribute band, and we played over 100 gigs this year!). I'd have a go myself if it wasn't for the slight geographical problem of me living at the other end of the country

I am gutted!
As a boy I was drip-fed 5pp by my father who was, and still is, a big fan - I came to love them. Then I left school and embarked on my adventure into the big wide world and my taste changed to more modern bands and music. In recent years I have come to my senses, aided more than a little by acquiring all my Dad's LPs (some of which I have transcribed on to CD).
My one regret is that I never managed to see the band live.
Is there any way I could persuade the band to make an another appearance? Might I suggest the Fylde Folk Festival in Fleetwood next September? I would move heaven and earth to get there - it would make my (and my Dad's) year! Please!
We wait in anticipation.
