One Year on and I for one still miss my old friend Lynda. Not the happiest day in one sense, but at least I have taken the opportunity to play a few tracks while working at my part time occupation in a Beer Shop here in Southport. Quite fitting when I consider the amount of drink we must have consumed over the years, out on the road, or, at her home in Dobcross, and later at the cottage in Mottram. I still have many fond memories of those days with Lynda, and on occasion we would visit with her Mum, not to forget my dog minding days, how that lass loved her King Charles Spaniels very happy times. I shall raise my glass to Lynda, Eddy and George later in the day. Thanks once again for the happy times and the great music. may you all continue to rest in peace. Kevin

Now two years since Lynda's passing, and still no other member as posted a comment about the Lass. To say I for one am disappointed at this would be an understatement. It does make me wonder just how much the Band and it's members, really meant to their supposed fans and supporters. I for one will never forget Lynda or the other Band members who have very sadly left us. Again, I shall raise a glass to their memories today, and will continue to do so for as long as it is possible for me to do so. Continue to rest in peace, and thanks once again for the good days and the fond memories.

I am saddened to learn of the passing of Lynda two years ago. I was a CPO in the Navy in 1982 , when i met the group when they performed at HMS Drake in Plymouth. I invited Lynda and the lads down to my Submarine for a social visit - but unfortunatly they couldn't fit it in. However, a couple of months later my sub (HMS Olympus) visited salford docks at Manchester(june 1982). This time , Lynda and the Lads came to the boat for a tour round. Afterwards Lynda took me out for a meal and a drink in Manchester. It was a wonderful evening, one which i will never forget. Strangely it was on the 22nd this week that i came across my old Five pennypiece cassette that i bought all those years ago, and thought i would check on-line to see what they are doing now - only to learn of the sad news. I am so pleased that I did share a day in my life with Lynda

Hello Bruce Interesting to read your post, I to remember the Band being booked to play the Officers mess at HMS Drake. Unfortunately for myself the Venue apparently due to it's size did not require the full PA system. As a roadie for them, this came as a blow to me as Plymouth is my home city. I have spent many a happy hour at HMS Drake as my late Father was an Able Seaman stationed at Drake. Memories of home comings from a commission, if my memory serves me correctly his longest time away was Three Years. I doubt that would happen in this day and age. The big highlight was to be allowed on board ship and go below to see the living quarters, I also doubt those conditions would be tolerated in the Modern Navy. Navy Days around August/September times were another highlight of my year. The Field Gun run terrific entertainment. I am of course referring to the 1950's. So glad you had the chance to meet Lynda and the Lads, I'm sure you will agree a great bunch. Thanks for that memory Bruce and sharing it with myself and others on the site. Kind regards Kevin

As a tribute to Lynda and the other members of the band, I posted on the 11th February 2017 the ultra rare Camera And The Song which I believe was The Fivepenny Piece's finest hour. The video file came from Margaret Meeks. I had to spend a whole day trying to sync a new soundtrack from my own tape as the audio was muffled, brighten up what was a very dark recording and put other footage onto the start as the opening titles were missing, it DOES synchronise after Eee-by_gum. Then I had to upload it, took a few tries as the length of the video initially caused problems. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ghh0Sz3s1xsMartin

I first became hooked on the Fivepenny Piece back in the 70's. I was on strike from work and we sat in our cars for the night shift outside the company's gates and a guy put on his tape of the band in our car. I was gobsmacked at the genius and talent of the members and I think I have most of their vinyl LP's and some CD's as well which to me are priceless. When a member passed away it brought me huge sadness as this is something that cannot be replaced. I could go on for a long time about the merits of John, Lynda, Eddy, George, and Colin, but this would take up a lot of space here. I think I will be content just to say how grateful I am for having come to know such talent, to say a big thanks for all their unique recordings and finally what a shock it was to learn that Lynda had passed away at her age of 67. She should have lived a lot longer!

Last week early Nov 2019, I sent an email to the band's website and I was delighted to get a reply from John Meeks himself. He tells me that he and his wife Margaret spend their winters in Florida!, wow how nice that must be to escape from our inhospitable winter weather. Would you believe that he still performs over there and apparently his 'ditties' as he calls them go down very well with his American audiences. Good on yer John, you've still got what it takes and I hope you go on performing for many years yet. I recently sent an email to Radio Manchester informing them that the 5PP brought out a CD called CITY OF MANCHESTER, and the opening track sung by Lynda would bring a lump to any homesick Mancunian. It was my hope that if they played this track it would grab the attention of the listeners and bring about a revival of the group. Would you believe that this radio station didn't even have the basic manners to even reply to my email!. I even rang the Mike Sweeney show to tell them of this track, same result, no interest at all. When I hear some of the crap that they play it tells me that the public are just fed a diet of inane non musical rubbish. No wonder we are all fed up with the state of radio in the UK. We have to go back to the 60's and 70's and even some of the 80's in order to hear proper music played by proper musicians and many of them like our 5PP have the pure genius to write their own songs which will delight listeners for decades to come. I'm afraid that radio in the UK is dead and should be buried in my opinion. If the 5PP were given air time we would see a huge revival. The trouble nowadays is that most DJ's are so full of themselves and grovel for attention that the most important thing is overlooked, they are there to play good music for our entertainment!.

Well said Mikestar, I agree entirely. Another year has passed, I'm here to say once more continue to rest in peace to Lynda, Eddy and George. These three, plus Colin, Phil 'knocker' Barlow and Pete Lingwood ( Keyboards ), became good friends over many years. It still remains a pleasure to have met and to get to know all the People involved with the band, above all they became Friends.
