I have purchased many of the 5pp on CD to replace our old LPs. Do you have a CD with 'I'm Powf*gged' on it? It is one of our all time favourites and would love to hear it again.
With kind regards
Patricia

Hi Patricia, The orginal version of 'I'm Powf*gged' appeared on the LP 'Songs We Like To Sing', and on the two compilation LPs 'The Very Best Of The Fivepenny Piece' (NOT the CD of the same name) and 'Lancashire My Lancashire'. All never released on CD, so no help there... However, a different version, featuring Lynda as well as Eddie on vocals, appears on the Lanky Spoken Here LP and CDs. Now the Lanky Spoken Here CDs, released by EMI, while not currently being sold on the Fivepenny Piece website, is still to be found on Amazon website www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00008Y2J3?ie=UTF8&tag=somersetmadel-21&linkCode=as2&camp=1634&creative=6738&creativeASIN=B00006JS50. This is the 2nd Release with the famous "Lankyphone" course in the Lancashire dialect included. PS to all readers: The censored spelling of the song title is not down to the prudishness of Patricia or myself - rather the American programmers of the Forum software who obviously see the word "f*g" as being particularly rude!

If I remember correctly I ripped a couple of 5pp vinyl albums for my Dad and put them on CD, having filtered out as many scratches as I could. Presuming no copyright issues are at stake here I could be able to send you a copy (quality is reasonable, taking into consideration the age and use of the vinyl ;-) ). Which album do you have with it on? If it is not on either album that I have already ripped, I am sure I will get round to it in the New Year My take on the copyright is that, if I have an original copy of the album on vinyl, transferring it to CD is merely changing it from one medium to another, more durable one. I have already paid to listen to the music once. Anybody disagree? Regards Peter

My take on the copyright is that, if I have an original copy of the album on vinyl, transferring it to CD is merely changing it from one medium to another, more durable one. I have already paid to listen to the music once. Anybody disagree? Of course I do! 'Ripping' from vinyl to CD for personal use is perfectly legal. There are legitimate reasons for making a CD copy from a vinyl record; this is covered by the legal concept of "fair use", which permits making personal backups of products including vinyl albums. I have no argument with that... However, once you offer these copies to other people (even free of charge) you are leaping straight into the stormy seas of music piracy. Copying material that you don't own the rights to, or haven't got permission to copy from the copyright holder, is illegal. It stops being "ripping" and starts being 'ripping off". And as Administrator of this Forum, it would be remiss of me not to point this out. Regardless of what I feel about it, even what the Fivepenny Piece feel about it (after all it's their songwriting and performance royalties you are by-passing) - EMI would undoubtedly take a dim view on the whole procedure. And - having seen Watchdog last week - the whole industry is beginning to take the issue of piracy a lot more seriously than in the past, so I would strongly advise against it. (Especially having now advertised yourself on the web!) So, how can fans get hold of these songs? Well, buy the vinyl second hand (and then you have the right to make your own CD copy), hassle EMI into re-issuing albums or just hope that the John decides to include the song on whatever future albums he is planning for the band. [ What do I feel about it? Well I am a professional songwriter and performing myself, and would hate to see my hard-earned royalties (meagre as they are!) going astray!]

Hi Mr. Blades. I hope you still keep an eye on the forum pages. I am trying to get hold of a copy of "I'm Powf*gged" and tried everything you have mentioned above. Amazon are currently out of stock and have no plans to re-issue the album at present. I have tried E bay as well but luck there either. Why, if this song is so popular, did 5pp not release it again on their many albums over the years? Most frustrating!!!!! We used to sing this song in my local pub in Tottington near Bury many years ago along with many other of 5pp and other Lancashire groups. Can you help or do I have to badger EMI?
